A Logan Township police officer who crashed a marked SUV has been cited for running a red light.
Altoona police cited Logan Township Police Officer Barry Fry Jr. with failing to stop for a steady red signal in Sunday's crash at Sixth Avenue and Eighth Street. Fry drove through a red light about 8:30 a.m. Sunday in a Logan Township police 2019 Ford XPL and broadsided 2008 Ford F-250 driven by a 50-year-old Altoona man.
No one was hurt in the crash, Altoona police said this week. Fry has remained on light duty and is expected to be back on full duty next week, Logan Township Police Chief David Reese said Friday.
Reese said Altoona police handled the investigation into the crash appropriately and noted Fry had already pleaded guilty to the traffic ticket. Reese could not comment on any separate, internal investigation into the crash since it is a personnel matter.
A check of court records indicated Frye paid $143 in costs and fines associated with the ticket on Wednesday, the same day it was issued.
