HOLLIDAYSBURG -- With less than two weeks until the general election, Hollidaysburg Area School Board held a regular monthly meeting attended by few.
The meeting was attended by school board candidates Brandon Burns, Thomas McCaffrey and Doug Stephens. Those three have regularly attended meetings.
On the school board, two incumbents seeking reelection, Lonna Frye and Lois Kaneshiki, were both in attendance.
There are four other candidates on the Nov. 5 ballot, rounding out the field to nine candidates competing for five seats on the board.
"I'm disappointed that there are people running for school board who have never been to a meeting," Hollidaysburg Area Superintendent Bob Gildea said.
Board action taken Wednesday included hiring Sherry Socie as district accounting operations director to replace Rob Roberts when he retires in December. Socie is currently fiscal manager at Appalachia Intermediate Unit 8 and had previously been employed for 15 years by the Altoona Area School District.
In addition, district administrators presented annual reports and educational goals for the school year.
After the meeting, board members mentioned the school board candidate forum scheduled for 3 p.m. Sunday at the senior high school auditorium. Seven of the nine candidates are set to attend.
The forum is hosted by the Hollidaysburg Area civics class.
Candidates will answer questions from students, parents and district employees on school safety, taxes, school improvements, curriculum and student wellness.
The event will also be live streamed to the public on YouTube.
