Trooper hits suspect with Taser
Parson allegedly charged officers
A Newry man was hit with a Taser on Thursday after he allegedly rushed two state troopers.
Cory R. Parson, 21, was dropped with a Taser by a state trooper who was outside the door of Parson’s home at 834 Parson Lane in Newry after Parson allegedly announced, “Here I come,” before he charged at the door holding a knife sharpener above his head, according to charges filed by state police.
The two troopers were dispatched to the home about 12:30 a.m. Thursday for a report of an outside argument where a male might have had a knife.
The troopers arrived outside the apartment and heard a woman say, “You cut me. I can’t believe you cut me outside with the knife.”
Troopers then heard a man say, “I didn’t mean to.” After knocking and getting no response, state police knocked on the glass of an open window, announced their presence and said to open the door.
It was then that Parson allegedly rushed at the troopers, who stepped back from the door as Parson came at them with the cylinder-shaped knife sharpener held above his head as if he was going to make a stabbing motion.
When Parson ignored commands to stop, he was hit with the Taser and fell to the ground.
Police said Parson appeared to have blood smeared on his arms, chest and back.
Parson told police later he thought they were another male who he had an encounter with earlier and he was going to defend himself.
His girlfriend spoke to police and told them, although she said she was cut with a knife, she actually cut her finger when she grabbed Parson’s belt.
Parson told police he did have a knife on him and that she was cut by accident when she tried to pull him back inside the apartment during the argument.
Parson was charged with aggravated assault of a police officer, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Parson was released on an unsecured $50,000 bond after his arraignment Thursday morning by Magisterial District Judge Ben Jones.
His preliminary hearing is scheduled for Thursday before Magisterial District Judge Andrew Blattenberger.
