Couple allegedly leave kids in motel
Police: Pair left children alone to get methadone
A Cambria County couple face charges in Logan Township after police say they left their four small children alone in a motel room.
Anthony J. Feighner and Amanda Kline, both 25 and from Colver, were arraigned Thursday on four felony counts of endangering the welfare of children after the couple allegedly left their four children, ages 8, 5, 20 months and 8 months, alone two times on Wednesday and Thursday so they could go to a methadone clinic for their daily treatment, according to charges filed by Logan Township police.
Police were called to the Motel 6 about 7:30 a.m. Thursday by a Blair County Children, Youth & Families caseworker who was following up on information she received that Feighner and Kline were leaving the children in the motel room without any supervision.
When the caseworker arrived at the motel room, two of the small children appeared at the window but said they couldn’t open the door.
Police said the caseworker found the children alone in the room, with the 20-month-old child on the bed and the 8-month-old baby in a car seat in the bathroom.
Police noted the couple left the children unattended for about an hour each day and spoke to someone who said she drove the pair to the methadone clinic each of the two days and confirmed they had no one to look after the kids while they were gone.
Police said the two oldest children told a caseworker that no one stays with them when “mommy and daddy go to the medicine store.”
One of the children said they were told by Feighner and Kline that if they told anyone, they would get in trouble.
Police noted the kids said they were responsible for feeding the babies from bottles prepared by their parents before they left and that when Feighner and Kline returned from the clinic, they would put the older children on the school bus.
When asked what they would do if something happened to the two babies while their parents were gone, the two older children said they didn’t know.
Feighner and Kline were taken into custody when they returned to the room on Thursday morning.
A small marijuana pipe was allegedly found on Feighner when he was arrested, police noted.
Feighner and Kline were released on unsecured $15,000 bonds and are scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing on May 23.
