Sen. Wayne Langerholc Jr., R-Cambria, was appointed Monday to serve as chairman of the Senate Education Committee for the rest of the 2019-20 legislative session.
Langerholc said he will work with committee members on issues related to the state's education system, including school safety funding, and improving postsecondary opportunities for students, according to a press release sent by his office.
"I'm honored and excited to take on this new role. As a father of three girls, I understand the critical role our education system plays in the future of the commonwealth," Langerholc said in the release. "With education compiling 40 percent of the state budget, it is vital that we ensure these tax dollars are allocated fairly and equitably. I look forward to embracing the challenges our schools face and finding creative ways to address the needs of all students."
