Woman who poured gas in toilet faces charges
Williams allegedly poured fuel down drain after argument
A woman who police said poured gasoline down a toilet last week now faces a felony charge.
Holly E. Williams, 37, was charged Wednesday with a felony count of risking a catastrophe and misdemeanor recklessly endangering another person stemming from her alleged role in starting a fire on Feb. 5 when she flushed gasoline down the toilet of her home.
About 8:30 a.m. Williams and her boyfriend, 38-year-old Michael Miller, got into an argument about him wanting to leave their house at 1406 Logan Blvd., according to charges filed by Altoona police.
Police noted that Williams didn’t want Miller to leave in their only car because he had been drinking, so she poured gasoline they kept in a can to start the car down the toilet.
Miller allegedly walked in the bathroom as Williams was throwing the empty gas can out the window and after calling her a “moron,” Miller allegedly tossed a cigarette he had been smoking into the toilet.
Williams told police that flames started coming out of the toilet and she called for Miller, who had already walked out. Williams also said she saw smoking rising from the floor.
According to charges filed against Williams on Wednesday, Altoona Fire Inspector Adam Free told police that the fumes from the gasoline that was flushed leaked into the basement, and when a responding firefighter opened the basement door, the added oxygen, along with the close proximity of the furnace and hot water tank, caused the vapors to ignite.
