Clearfield man loses sentencing appeal

A Clearfield County man who is serving a life-without-parole sentence for a 1999 murder has lost his third bid to overturn the sentence, which was imposed by a Centre County judge.

Heath Quick of Morrisdale was 20 years old when he and another man, Thomas J. Huddleston, then 21, murdered a State College man and took his money, marijuana and car.

The victim, Oscar David Camargo, 19, was shot by Quick at Black Moshannon State Park where the three met, allegedly to pursue of a marijuana deal.

Police charged that Quick, now 39, and Huddleston of Philipsburg, conspired to kill Camargo for the marijuana and money.

Quick, in a state police interview, said he thought Camargo was a “narc,” or police informant.

The two dumped the victim’s body in a ravine off a rural road near the town of Snow Shoe in Centre County.

Quick, who is serving his term in the State Correctional Institution at Graterford, has challenged his life sentence through three post-conviction petitions by citing recent decisions by the U.S. Supreme Court.

All three have been denied.

Huddleston, now 40, was convicted by a jury of second-degree murder and is serving life at the State Correctional Institution at Frackville.

Starting at $3.83/week.
