OSCEOLA MILLS -- Residents of Osceola Mills turned on their porch lights this weekend to remember the victims of Friday's shooting that left the small Clearfield County community in shock.
Beth Schultz, 47, and her daughter, 22-year-old Victoria Schultz, were killed Friday by Victoria's boyfriend, Cody Bush, after state police say the 26-year-old Osceola Mills man shot the two, along with Victoria's sister, Jessica Schultz, 25, at a home on Curtin Street.
Jessica Schultz survived and was taken to UPMC Altoona. The extent of her injuries and her condition have not been not released.
The death of Beth and Victoria Schultz stunned their former coworkers.
"They were both the life of the party," said 27-year-old Kachina Spangler, who worked with both women at the Target store in State College. Spangler said she knew Beth Schultz best, having known her for the past 10 years. The two shared customer service duties at the store, and when Victoria also started working there, Spangler got to know her a bit as well while showing her the ropes.
Spangler recalled Beth Schultz was sarcastic and sassy with a quick wit. She said the oldest daughter, Jessica, has a young son, and Beth Schultz was very protective of her girls and anyone else she cared about.
"She was absolutely feisty," Spangler said. "She was so protective of the ones she loved. Victoria was the same way. She was always all smiles. Always happy."
Spangler said she worked customer service with Beth Schultz as part of the "Tuesday night crew" at Target, where she said everyone is like family.
Beth Schultz was great with people and made everything fun, she said.
"She was always rolling her eyes and giving us that look," Spangler remembered. "Victoria did the same thing."
And her laugh is something, Spangler says, she'll miss and never forget.
Target employees were told of the shooting as the year's busiest shopping day was getting underway while Bush was on the run following the 7:40 a.m. shooting. He was later found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Spangler learned of the shooting Friday as current and former Target coworkers began to call and message each other with the horrific news.
"Our family is definitely hurting," she said. "Even people who don't know them will be affected by this."
Osceola Mills Mayor Ida Reams said a candlelight vigil for the Schultz family is planned for Monday night to remember the victims and show support for the families affected by the shooting.
"Our community is deeply saddened by the incident, and our thoughts and prayers go out to the families involved," Reams said Saturday.
The vigil is scheduled to start at 6 p.m. at the Osceola Mills Community Park.
