Predator facing more charges
An East Freedom man serving a 10- to 20-year sentence for raping a teenage girl faces hearings on two new sets of charges – in this case, for allegedly raping and impregnating a young female relative last year.
According to affidavits from Freedom and Greenfield townships, Hansford “Hamp” Dively, 42, sexually assaulted the girl repeatedly over a roughly eight-month period starting when she was 13. Police said Dively threatened to kill the girl and “bury (her) in the back yard” if she revealed the abuse.
The alleged assaults took place before and after a move, starting in the Claysburg area in 2013 and continuing in Freedom Township, according to police reports.
Police said Dively, whose address is now listed at the State Correctional Institution at Huntingdon, left the girl pregnant. Investigators confirmed his responsibility after the fetus’ age coincided with the time of the alleged rapes, police said in an affidavit.
“Dively would come into (the victim’s) bedroom while everyone in the house was asleep and forced (her) to have sex,” an officer wrote in charging documents.
The alleged victim ultimately gave birth to the child, Freedom Township Police Sgt. Nathan W. Claycomb said Wednesday. She now lives with another family member.
The new charges cover alleged assaults at roughly the same time as a prior rape case, for which Dively is now serving a long prison sentence, Claycomb noted. A Blair County judge deemed Dively a sexually violent predator in January in relation to that case.
In the earlier case, Dively was accused of ordering a then-12-year-old girl – a friend of a young relative – to his bedroom for sex. After making sexual comments to the girl during a sleepover at his home, Dively reportedly locked the girl in a room and threatened her until she relented.
Dively’s girlfriend at the time, 39-year-old Michele Zeigler of East Freedom, received a nine-to 23-month sentence for ordering the victim to his room and urging her to have sex with him.
In the two new cases, filed in late April, Dively faces 32 forcible rape charges and dozens of other felony allegations including sexual assault and corruption of minors. In addition, he faces dozens of misdemeanor charges including making terroristic threats.
Preliminary hearings for the cases are set for May 21 before Roaring Spring Magisterial District Judge Craig E. Ormsby.
