Annual Hollidaysburg Pumpkin Fest will feature changes
Hollidaysburg is ringing in the fall season today with its annual Pumpkin Festival.
The event, which will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. along Allegheny Street, will feature pumpkin-themed foods, games and entertainment for both children and adults. More than 54 vendors will line up for the festival.
Hollidaysburg Main Street Manager Andrea Carnicella said 10 more nonprofits were added this year. Pumpkin Festival, first held in 2006, has expanded annually.
“It’s just getting bigger,” Carnicella said.
This year also marks the first time that the Farm and Craft Market will be set up alongside the festival. The market offers a variety of local goods on Tuesdays and Fridays through the summer and early fall. Also on Montgomery Street, a “treasure yard sale” will
be held to benefit Hollidaysburg-based Mending Hearts Animal Rescue.
Two stages will also be set up for a variety of performances, Carnicella said, including local bands, baton twirlers and dancers.
“It’s a jam-packed schedule,” she said. “I can’t believe they got that many people to come out.”
According to the Hollidaysburg Community Partnership’s website, parking will be available for free at the county parking garage on Mulberry Street, behind Keller Engineers on Allegheny Street and at the Hollidaysburg YMCA.
Carnicella said visitors who park at the YMCA can take a free hayride to the festival throughout the entire event. She said parking is often an issue, and people don’t always realize that the hayride is going on. Festivalgoers can also take the hayride just for fun, too, Carnicella said.
She said she thinks the family-oriented nature of the festival tends to draw out the pumpkin fans.
“I think it draws a lot of people, just because it’s a family-friendly event, and there’s a ton of activities for kids,” Carnicella said. “It’s a wonderful fall event.”
For the kids, aside from the snacks, the festival will offer a petting zoo, rock wall, jugglers and crafts.
