McDonald's sued over AI price tool
McDonald's is facing a federal lawsuit that alleges its AI-enhanced pricing tool violates antitrust laws because it shares nonpublic data with competing franchisees. The lawsuit was filed on Friday in Illinois. It claims that the McDonald's platform collects data that franchises competing in the same market wouldn't normally share, like store-level sales.
The lawsuit was filed on behalf of a consumer who said he noticed different prices at McDonald's restaurants near his home. McDonald's said Tuesday that the lawsuit is "filled with inaccuracies" and it will vigorously defend itself. The Chicago-based company said the tool is optional, and ultimately franchisees are responsible for setting prices. Frachisees own 95% of U.S. McDonald's.
US not transparent on space weapons in orbit
The United States military recently confirmed that the U.S. has deployed weapons in space. It didn't specify the types or targets of these weapons. Such resources as the 2026 Global Counterspace Capabilities Report, published by the nonprofit Secure World Foundation, help to provide an overview of potential space weapons.
The report lists five distinct categories of counterspace capabilities. It examines systems being developed by 13 countries. But there's a lack of transparency on what is being launched into space, Concerns persist, despite the Outer Space Treaty, which bans nuclear weapons in space. Experts argue the treaty needs updating to address modern challenges.
ABC and Trump's FCC battle in federal court
A lawyer for ABC has asked a federal judge to prevent the Trump administration from conducting an unusual, early review of its broadcast licenses, likening it to a looming execution by guillotine. The network argued on Tuesday that the early review was already chilling its editorial decisions weeks before the U.S. midterm elections.
U.S. District Judge Loren AliKhan did not immediately rule on ABC's request for a preliminary injunction. A government attorney argued that, as a procedural matter, the court doesn't have jurisdiction over ABC's case because it belongs in a different venue. A ruling was not expected until at least mid-October.
Info for 1M people stolen in court cyberattack
A cyberattack on Arizona's court system has compromised personal information for more than a million people. The breach is believed to have started when a court employee clicked a malicious link in an email.
The Arizona Supreme Court says the information includes data for 1.3 million people with unpaid court fees and fines. Records of nearly 30,000 orders of protection and 150,000 foster care reports were also taken. The court's technology staff shut down the attack on a backup server within two hours on Sept. 24. The attack is under investigation. No court cases have been affected.
