WTAJ will honor the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks with a full day of special programming, live coverage and historical reflections, recognizing a day that forever changed the nation and holds a particularly significant place in our area.
The events of that day were felt especially close to home when United Airlines Flight 93 crashed near Shanksville in Somerset County.
To mark this important milestone, WTAJ will provide viewers with comprehensive coverage focused on remembrance, reflection, service and the lasting impact of Sept. 11.
Today, WTAJ+ will feature extensive special programming, including documentaries, historical retrospectives, live coverage from the Flight 93 National Memorial, and interviews highlighting the stories of first responders, survivors, and families affected by the attacks.
First Commonwealth, City of Altoona host family event
First Commonwealth Bank and the City of Altoona will host an afternoon filled with fun and financial resources for the whole family, while supporting Mountain Lion Backpack Program and Altoona Area Schools at the Homeownership in the Park event, from 2 to 4 p.m. Sept. 19 at Highland Park, 4719 Fifth Ave.
Kids can enjoy activities and games while parents receive homeownership resources from the First Commonwealth Bank team.
In addition, there will be giveaways and hotdogs while supporting the Mountain Lion Backpack Program and Altoona Area Schools in a fun "Stuff the Truck" Fundraiser, where food and school supplies will be gathered for children in need.

FCC approves transfer of WPSU to WHYY
The Federal Communications Commission has approved the transfer of WPSU to WHYY, clearing the final regulatory hurdle for a transaction designed to secure the future of public media in northern and central Pennsylvania. After the transaction closes, WHYY will officially become WPSU's owner and operator.
The FCC's action affirms a path forward that will allow WPSU to continue serving audiences throughout northern and central Pennsylvania while building on its longstanding legacy of public service.
For more than 70 years, WPSU has informed, educated and connected communities through trusted journalism, educational programming, local storytelling and public service.
The transaction follows months of collaboration between Penn State and WHYY to develop a long-term path forward for public media service in the region.
Penn State and WHYY will continue working together through the transition period to ensure continuity for audiences and community partners. Upon closing, WHYY will assume ownership and operation of WPSU's television and radio stations, which will retain their call signs.
