ASCEND seeking students
Students are being recruited for 1st Summit Bank's ASCEND 250 program.
Teachers at 10 participating high schools in Cambria and Somerset counties are now nominating students for the first class. Students need two teacher recommendations before they are invited to apply.
ASCEND 250 is a three-year paid banking apprenticeship. Participants become full-time, salaried employees of 1st Summit Bank on their first day. They spend 18 months learning throughout the bank and another 18 months specializing in an area of interest.
The first class will begin in September 2027.

Inclined Health opens
For many patients, one of the most frustrating parts of healthcare isn't necessarily the care itself -- it's getting access to it.
Founded by local primary care physician Dr. Travis Rearick, Inclined Health operates using a membership-based model known as Direct Primary Care. Instead of billing insurance for routine primary care services, patients pay a predictable monthly membership fee and receive ongoing access to their physician.
At Inclined Health, appointments are intentionally longer and patients have direct access to their physician by phone and text for questions, medication refills, follow-up concerns and help navigating their healthcare. Keeping the practice small allows Rearick to offer appointments promptly and to keep medical advice personalized to each member's situation.
