Small group to feature forage identification

Penn State Extension will hold its quarterly Sheep and Goat Small Group Gathering from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Aug. 19 at the Barkley Farm, 8887 Hyndman Road, Buffalo Mills. All livestock producers are invited to attend.

Leanna Duppstadt, Penn State Extension field and forage crops educator, will discuss how to identify different forages and weeds with a walk through the pastures at the farm. Melanie Barkley, Penn State Livestock Educator and farm owner, will offer insights on forages best suited for different livestock species.

There is no cost to attend, but registration is requested. Allegany College of Maryland awarded grant

Allegany College of Maryland has been selected to participate in the Engineering for US All College Credit Pathways Initiative to develop new opportunities for high school students pursuing engineering education.

The initiative supports colleges and universities in creating college credit pathways for students who complete high school coursework aligned with the innovative e4usa engineering curriculum. The curriculum is currently under consideration by the College Board as the foundation for a future Advanced Placement Engineering course.

The initiative will establish a pathway that allows students who successfully complete e4usa coursework in high school to earn college credit, helping them transition more seamlessly into engineering programs after graduation.

Penn Highlands launches media certificate programs

Pennsylvania Highlands Community College has announced the addition of two new certificate programs to its Business & Communication Pathway, as a 27-credit Certificate in Broadcast News and Video Production and a 27-credit Certificate in Social Media and Radio Broadcasting will begin in Fall 2026.

The Broadcast News and Video Production Certificate gives students hands-on training in television news gathering, studio and field camera operation, production techniques, video editing and graphic creation.

The Social Media and Radio Broadcasting Certificate builds skills in social media management, content production and distribution, introductory on-air broadcasting, and audio recording.
