New hires and promotions

Malia Schimminger of Altoona has been named director of Career Services and Professional Development at Mississippi University for Women.

As director of the Career Services and Professional Development Center, Schimminger will serve as a liaison between the university, students, alumni and potential employers at the state, regional and national levels. She also will develop partnerships with external organizations to expand employment opportunities for students and alumni.

Before joining The W, Schimminger served as assistant director of the Camellia Center at the University of Alabama. From 2021 until August 2025, Schimminger worked in the International Institute at Mississippi State University.

Tanner Ebersole, a field surveyor and Daniel Lensbouer, a transportation construction inspector, have joined Keller Engineers, Inc.

Ebersole brings a background in utility and field operations, along with experience as a pipe fitter and laborer. He has worked extensively with heavy equipment, underground utilities, and site plans. Ebersole is a graduate of Central High School and holds a Class A Commercial Driver’s License with tanker endorsements.

Lensbouer qualifies as a Pennsylvania Department of Transportation TCI-2 inspector with nearly a decade of construction-related experience. He has contributed to major infrastructure projects including roadway, bridge, airport, and turnpike work–bringing expertise in inspection, documentation, and quality assurance. Lensbouer holds a Certificate in Masonry and Welding from the Somerset County Technology Center.

Awards and honors

Juniata College honored five faculty members with distinguished teaching and service awards at the close of the spring 2026 semester.

Professor of Psychology Mark McKellop was named the 59th recipient of the Beachley Award for Distinguished Teaching. Professor of Politics Dennis Plane received the 37th annual Beachley Award for Distinguished Academic Service, and Professor of Geology Ryan Mathur ’96 received the inaugural Beachley Award for Distinguished Scholarship.

Assistant Professor of Education Shuang Quan was honored with the 31st Henry ’57 and Joan Gibbel Award for Distinguished Teaching, which recognizes faculty members with fewer than six years of service at Juniata. Professor of Geology Matt Powell earned the fifth annual Eagle Advising Award, presented to a faculty or staff member who has served as an adviser for at least three years.
