Business news of local interest

TYRONE

The Dollar General Literacy Foundation recently awarded the Tyrone-Snyder Public Library a $1,500 grant to support summer literacy.

The funds contribute to a record-setting, single-day total of nearly $16 million in grants nationwide — supporting adult, family and summer literacy programs in the 48 states where Dollar General operates. The milestone surpasses the foundation’s previous record of more than $13.2 million granted in May 2025.

“We are absolutely delighted to receive the Dollar General Summer Literacy Grant this year in support of our summer learning programs. Funding opportunities like this are incredibly important because they allow libraries to provide engaging educational experiences, literacy activities and enrichment opportunities to children and families throughout our community at no cost. This grant will help ensure that students continue learning, exploring and growing all summer long,” said Jennifer Powell, library director.

The library will kick off SummerQuest 2026: Unearth a Story! with Dino Academy: A Dinosaur Discovery Show presented by Bright Star Touring Theatre at 1:30 p.m. June 6 at Reservoir Park.
