Giant sets opening dates for Bedford County stores

The Giant Company, known locally as Giant and Martin’s, announced Monday its new Saxton store at 509 Main St. will open its doors on May 1, and the new Everett store at 250 West Main St. will follow two weeks later on May 15.

Giant announced the acquisition of Everett Foodliner and Saxton Market in February. The stores are temporarily closed to complete minor remodels, install new signage and undertake an overall decor update.

Kyler Runk, a 16-year grocery veteran, former store manager of Saxton Market, has been named store manager of the Saxton Giant, which will operate from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., seven days a week.

At the new Everett Giant, Wendy Evans, a 34-year grocery veteran was named store manager. The Everett store will be open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., seven days a week, and the fuel station will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. every day.

Giant will employ more than 120 full- and part-time team members between both stores.

Walmart plans to remodel local stores

Walmart has announced continued reinvestment across Pennsylvania, with plans in 2026 to remodel 32 stores as part of ongoing efforts to modernize the in-store and digital shopping experience — upgrading layouts, technology, and services to offer faster, more convenient shopping and delivery in as little as an hour for most customers. These efforts reflect Walmart’s commitment supporting economic growth and strengthening communities statewide.

Three area stores are included: 200 Commerce Drive, Duncansville; 72 Bedford Square, Everett and 373 Benner Pike, State College.

Nationally, Walmart is planning remodels at more than 650 Supercenters and Neighborhood Markets this year. Additionally, Walmart invested more than $518 million to upgrade stores throughout Pennsylvania over the past five years.

Starting at $2.99/week.
