JOHNSTOWN

Health assessment finalized

The Conemaugh Health System, The United Way of the Southern Alleghenies, 1889 Foundation and the Center for Population Health, along with community partners, have finalized the 2025 Community Health Needs Assessment, which will provide a foundation for improving and promoting the health of each community in Cambria and Somerset counties. The CHNA is a systematic collection, assembly, analysis and dissemination of information about the comprehensive health of the community.

As part of this assessment, a community health survey was distributed in May 2025. The CHNA was sent to random households in both counties, and hard copies were distributed to local health and human service agencies.

Mount Aloysius recognized

Mount Aloysius College announced its national Top 100 placement (No. 89) on Newsweek’s inaugural America’s Best Colleges for Women 2026 list, and Top 10 ranking (No. 6) for Pennsylvania institutions. This achievement places Mount Aloysius College among the best in the nation for supporting women’s success in higher education, reflecting the college’s commitment to equity, leadership, opportunity and academic excellence.

The America’s Best Colleges for Women 2026 ranking was developed by Newsweek in partnership with Gender Fair, a gender equity research and certification organization.

Screen2Succeed wins grant

The 1889 Foundation has awarded a $100,000 grant to The Learning Lamp in support of its Screen2Succeed initiative, a program dedicated to increasing developmental screenings for young children across Cambria County.

Screen2Succeed focuses on early childhood screening to assess preschool-aged children’s readiness for kindergarten. The program helps identify developmental needs at an early stage, allowing educators and families to better support children, especially those in vulnerable communities, before they enter the classroom.
