McCarl & Co. to host heavy metal experience

Blair County-based S.P. McCarl & Co. is hosting a Heavy Metal Summer Experience this June. This is a free program that offers high school students and recent graduates a hands-on introduction to career opportunities in building trades.

The camp will take place in both the sheet metal and pipe fabrication shops in Altoona. Students will have the opportunity to complete two hands-on projects that will require piping, electrical, sheet metal and safety.

The weeklong camp will begin on June 22. The event is a free opportunity for any student who wants to try out building trades to see if it could be a career for them. Students can apply at: hmse.org/locations/locations/Altoona-pa.html.

Printing business opening

Owned and operated by Jake and Sara Bilthuis, the business is in the “soft opening” stage, with equipment being installed. A grand opening date has yet to be set.
