YEA! applications open

The Blair County Chamber of Commerce is accepting applications for the Young Entrepreneurs Academy for the 2025-26 class. YEA! is a 26-week program that guides middle and high school students through launching and running their own real businesses or social movements.

YEA! is open to all Blair County students in grades 6-12. While in the academy, students will receive all the necessary tools to launch their own real, legal businesses. That includes access to experts like attorneys, accountants, business mentors and graphic designers, plus an audience with investors for real startup cash. Classes meet weekly at the Penn State Altoona Sheetz Center for Entrepreneurial Excellence in downtown Altoona during the school day.

YEA! applications are available online at yeausa.org. Scholarships are available for students who meet eligibility requirements. Contact Tami Chadick, program manager, for details at YEABlairCounty@gmail.com. The deadline to apply is Sept. 17.

Sheetz charity tops $1M

Sheetz For The Kidz, an employee-driven charity supporting underprivileged children in the communities Sheetz operates in, raised $1,009,466 during its July in-store giving campaign, the first time the campaign exceeded $1 million during its annual July event.

Every year, during the months of July and December, Sheetz customers can donate to Sheetz For the Kidz at checkout, either through donation boxes or by adding a gift to their purchase. These funds support local kids in need with clothes, toys and more through the Sheetz For the Kidz Holiday Program in partnership with The Salvation Army.

Last year, customers raised more than $1.81 million for children in need through in-store fundraising in July and December. The donations helped make the holiday season brighter for nearly 12,400 children within the seven states Sheetz operates.
