Villa Capri heads ‘home’ to East Second Avenue

Country club plans to keep restaurant

The Villa Capri Restaurant is returning to where it started.

Villa Capri, owned by Vincenzo “Vinny” Scolaro and his wife Missy, plan to reopen their business in early February at 101 E. Second Ave., from where it had operated since February 2010.

Villa Capri had moved from the Second Avenue location to the Scotch Valley Country Club in March 2024.

Things just didn’t work out as planned, Missy Scolaro said.

“We wanted to do things our way, he wanted to do things their way and it was not our vision. We wished him good luck and he wished us good luck,” Missy Scolaro said.

Denny DeGol, one of the owners of the club, did not wish to comment on Villa Capri’s departure.

The Scolaros had maintained ownership of the Second Avenue building and no one had moved in while they were at Scotch Valley. They are excited about returning “home.”

“We will have the same menu and will be adding a few new things. We are remodeling the interior of the restaurant,” Missy Scolaro said.

Villa Capri has added another chef, Giuseppe Finazzo, to work with Vinny Scolaro in the kitchen.

Finazzo, who had a restaurant in New Jersey, is a childhood friend of Vinny’s as they grew up in Sicily together, Missy Scolaro said.

Villa Capri hopes to be up and running prior to Valentine’s Day. Business hours will be 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday and closed on Monday.

Reservations are suggested and can be made by calling 814-201-2043.

In the meantime, Scotch Valley will remain in the restaurant business, DeGol said.

“We have hired two new chefs. We will open in early March as ‘The Clubhouse at Scotch Valley.’ We will serve Italian dishes and steaks and seafood and we will be changing the menu, but we will be open,” DeGol said. The country club restaurant has traditionally been closed in January and February.
