New hires, promotions
Mark J. Kudlawiec has been named executive director of The Challenge Program, Inc., a Johnstown-based educational nonprofit.
With a career in education spanning more than three decades, he started his teaching career in 1987 in Maryland as an industrial arts teacher. In 1991, he was hired to teach technology education for the Forest Hills School District before becoming principal and executive director at Admiral Peary AVTS. Kudlawiec has served for the past twelve years as superintendent of schools for the Chestnut Ridge School District until his recent retirement.
Awards and honors
Colton Kensinger, Reliance Bank commercial banker, has been selected as one of Pennsylvania Business Central's Signature Leaders Under 30.
Kensinger joined the Reliance Bank Commercial Lending team in November 2021. Since then, he's built relationships with business leaders and helped to provide them with the resources necessary for growth.
Austin Cheers, formerly of Altoona, has been selected as one of Harrisburg's Young Professionals' 20 in their 20s for 2023.
Cheers is employed as a senior accountant at Miller Dixon and Drake Certified Public Accountants in Harrisburg.
He is a 2016 graduate of Altoona Area High School and a 2020 graduate of Penn State with a degree in accounting. He is the son of Janey and Jamie Cheers of Altoona and the grandson of Ann and Bill Wolf of Altoona and Barbara and Jim Kyle of Hollidaysburg.
Conferences and seminars
Beth Shoff and Sara Rutledge, Mount Aloysius College education professors, will be presenting at the 52nd annual Teacher Educator Assembly, hosted by the Pennsylvania Association of Colleges and Teacher Educators in October in Harrisburg.
Their presentation, titled "This is Us on Structured Literacy: How One Small Education Department Redesigned their Literacy Courses to Integrate the PDE SLC," will discuss how the Mount Aloysius education faculty redesigned their program to align with the state Department of Education's structured literacy framework guidelines.
