Job fair set for Bedford
PA CareerLink Bedford County will host a job fair April 5 at Jordan Hall at the Bedford County Fairgrounds.
The event begins at 9:30 a.m. for veterans followed by 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for the general public.
Some 55 area employers from a variety of industries will be recruiting and hiring at this job fair and employers are eager to talk with all job seekers and anyone considering a career change. Veterans will be allowed some initial, exclusive time to speak with employers.

Grant to benefit fluids lab
Juniata College has received a $496,500 grant from the Sherman Fairchild Foundation as part of its Scientific Equipment Program to fund the creation of an advanced, multidisciplinary lab.
Uma Ramakrishnan, natural science division head and professor of environmental science and studies, led a team that included Jim Borgardt, William W. Woolford professor of physics; Dennis Johnson, Blechchmidt professor of environmental science; and Ryan Mathur, professor of geology, who imagined the project and co-wrote the grant.
This support from the Sherman Fairchild Foundation will fund a new environmental fluids lab in Brumbaugh Academic Center, which will benefit Juniata's environmental engineering students while also providing opportunities to students enrolled in courses in biology, chemistry, environmental sciences and studies, geology and physics.
Peoples seeks rate decrease
Peoples Natural Gas Division has filed a request with the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission to decrease natural gas rates as of Oct. 1.
Peoples has requested an overall gas rate decrease of $262.1 million per year. If the company's entire request is approved the total bill for a residential customer using 86 thousand cubic feet per year would decrease from $106.27 to $69.53 per month or by 34.6%.
The PUC will examine the requested rate change and can prevent existing rates from changing until it investigates and/or holds hearings on the request. The company must prove that the requested rates are reasonable.
After examining the evidence, the PUC may grant all, some or none of the request.
