Levin receives award
Pennsylvania Solar Center recently presented the Lodestar Award to Levin Furniture & Mattress in recognition of the company's commitment to clean and renewable energy.
In November 2021, Levin Furniture & Mattress installed its fifth rooftop solar array at its corporate headquarters in Smithton. The installation includes 2,500 solar panels, making it the largest built by a retail company in western Pennsylvania. It generates 70% of the distribution center's annual electricity usage.
Levin Furniture & Mattress has locations in Altoona and State College.
McDonald's raises donations
McDonald's restaurants across Central Pennsylvania raised more than $9,000 for Ronald McDonald House Charities of Mid-Penn this year through a unique product promotion.
Ten cents from each Minute Maid Frozen Slushie and Frozen Carbonated Beverage sold in central Pennsylvania in 2022 was donated to RMHC. With support from customers across the tri-state area, McDonald's contributed more than $88,000 to local chapters of RMHC in Erie, Altoona, Pittsburgh and Morgantown.
"As a local businessman and dad to four daughters, I'm happy to host this fundraiser every year," said McDonald's owner/operator Joe Nyanko.

Sheetz planning new store
Sheetz Inc. is planning a new store along Route 30 (9402 Lincoln Highway).
Earlier this month, Sheetz closed its doors at that location for a rebuild project, spokesman Nick Ruffner said.
"Sheetz is excited to be offering our loyal customers in Bedford a new store design which will include a restaurant-style experience with self-service kiosks and additional seating both inside and outside the store. The new store is tentatively scheduled to open to the public next spring," Ruffner said. "Sheetz employees from this store have been offered other jobs at nearby locations temporarily, while the project is underway."
