Senior LIFE Altoona hosts grand opening
From Mirror staff reports
Senior LIFE Altoona hosted a grand opening Thursday afternoon at the program’s new location, 2891 Fairway Drive.
Senior LIFE is a Medicare and Medicaid approved long-term care program that provides medical care and supportive services for residents 55 years and older.
During the grand opening, community members toured the facility and learned about the program and services offered.
The LIFE Program stands for “Living Independence for the Elderly” and is a joint Medicare/Medicaid program launched 23 years ago in Pennsylvania to provide a comprehensive array of health and support services to residents who face health challenges that threaten their continued ability to live independently.
Senior LIFE opened its doors in June 2012 at its original location on 12th Avenue in Altoona, and the program has more than doubled its number of participants in the last four years, officials said. The new facility was built as organizers anticipate continued growth as baby boomers age and look for alternatives to nursing home care following the pandemic.
The new location features a new medical clinic with advanced equipment, larger dayrooms, a full kitchen to provide meals and personal care facilities.
LIFE uses a team approach to provide seniors with medical, social, nutritional and rehabilitation services at the Senior LIFE Center in Altoona as well as in the home. Senior LIFE makes it possible for seniors to remain at home, enjoying the comfort and reassurance of familiar surroundings while receiving the care they need. All services are provided at no cost to eligible persons.
