Sheetz unaffected by pipeline
The shutdown of the Colonial Pipeline, the largest fuel pipeline in the United States, is creating gasoline shortages in many states.
More than 1,000 gas stations in the Southeast have reported running out of fuel since the pipeline, which delivers about 45% of the gasoline consumed on the East Coast, was hit Friday by a cyberattack by hackers who lock up computer systems and demand a ransom to release them.
Altoona-based Sheetz has several locations in Virginia and North Carolina, which are among the states hardest hit.
“As the shutdown of the Colonial Pipeline continues, our teams at Sheetz are working to address any supply issues at our store locations. As of now, there are no widespread outages at our stores, although certain grades of gasoline could be temporarily unavailable while our fueling teams replenish supplies. We apologize for any inconvenience caused to our customers and thank them for their patience while we navigate this situation,” Sheetz spokesman Nick Ruffner said.
Colonial anticipates restarting most of its operations by the end of the week.
