CaptiveAire expanding its facilities in Bedford

Growth will add 30 new jobs

BEDFORD — CaptiveAire, a national manufacturer of commercial kitchen ventilation systems and an emerging manufacturer of commercial HVAC equipment, is expanding its Bedford plant to include an additional facility.

The new building will be located adjacent to the existing plant and will provide an additional 96,000 square feet of manufacturing and warehouse space and 4,200 square feet of additional office space. The building will be dedicated to the company’s ductwork and HVAC product lines.

“We are thrilled to expand our Bedford manufacturing facility,” Bob Luddy, CaptiveAire president, said in a statement. “This growth will allow us to serve the needs of our customers in the Northeast region with shorter lead times and faster replacement timelines. We have long appreciated the warm welcome of the Bedford community and we look forward to continuing to serve its residents and provide employment opportunities.”

CaptiveAire will invest about $10 million in facility construction and new equipment acquisition, and will add 30 new jobs. The company is using a local contractor, Clark Contractors of Bedford.

CaptiveAire opened the doors of its Northeast manufacturing center, serving customers in the Northeast U.S. and Canada, in the Bedford Business Park in 2008. At that time, CaptiveAire purchased a 67,000 square feet spec building and expanded it to 84,000 square feet. The company added an extra 84,000 square feet in 2018, and now looks forward to expanding operations again with the new facility.

“CaptiveAire is a world-class manufacturer that, once again, is investing in Bedford County,” James Gonsman, Bedford County Development Association chairman, said in a statement.

“Bob Luddy and his team are building a beautiful new facility and creating new jobs. This continued growth is a testimony to our skilled workforce and CaptiveAire’s innovative, high-quality products. We couldn’t be happier with this news.”

CaptiveAire’s integrated kitchen ventilation packages include exhaust hoods, exhaust fans, electrical controls, direct-fired heaters, supply and exhaust duct systems, fire suppression systems, grease filters, high volume low speed fans and utility distribution systems. Its most recent addition to its product line is a dedicated outdoor air system, a highly efficient and technologically advanced commercial HVAC unit.

The company maintains a network of more than 100 sales offices in the U.S. and Canada and six strategically located manufacturing plants in Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Iowa, Oklahoma, California and Florida. It employs 1,300 individuals nationwide, with 160 located in Bedford. The North Carolina-based company began in a one-room facility in 1976. In 2018, CaptiveAire sales exceeded $500 million.
