Atlantic switching Value TV channels to digital

2 min read

Atlantic Broadband will transition its Value TV channels (23 to 75) to a digital-only format by early December, the company has announced.

In a letter to customers, Atlantic Broadband said as part of the upcoming $6.5 million FastForward Altoona initiative – designed to deliver enhanced picture and sound quality – the company will begin Oct. 13 to convert its Value TV channels to digital. Channels from 23 to 75 will be switched to digital by Dec. 7.

Customers in the limited service are not impacted, nor are customers who already have digital equipment on their set.

The letter states that customers with digital equipment connected to one or more TV sets in the home, will not see any disruption. However, any TV set that does not have a digital receiver will require digital equipment to view channels 23-75 starting Oct. 13.

Atlantic Broadband is offering up to two digital adapters at no extra cost for any customer who has value service or above. Additional adapters are $1.99 each per month.

“Based on our experience in other systems, a small portion of our customer base will need more than two adapters,” said Curt Kosko, Atlantic Broadband’s vice president and general manager, northern Pennsylvania.

Atlantic Broadband will mail one digital adapter to every value service customer at no cost in the next few weeks. Customers can order digital adapters through www.atlanticbb.com/getdigital or by calling 877-298-2619. Digital adapters also will be available at a store location at the Route 764 Plaza in Duncansville, Kosko said.

“By moving to digital only broadcasts on channels 23 and higher, Atlantic Broadband will be able to offer Altoona customers better picture and sound quality. Plus it will enable us to meet customer demand for more HD channels our most requested enhancement. By the first quarter of 2016, we will offer 115 HD channels which is twice the number we are able to provide today,” Kosko said.
