CDC: HPV vaccine averts cervical cancer
A new government report says that rates for precancerous lesions decreased about 80% among younger women who were screened for cervical cancer. That’s more evidence to show the HPV vaccine is working to prevent some cancers.
The estimates were published Thursday by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Influencers arrive in US despite charges
FORT LAUDERDALE — Influencer brothers Andrew and Tristan Tate have arrived in the U.S. from Romania after authorities lifted travel restrictions on the siblings, who have millions of online followers.
The Tates — who are dual U.S.-British citizens — were arrested in late 2022 and formally indicted last year on charges they participated in a criminal ring that lured women to Romania, where they were sexually exploited.

NKorea may have sent more troops to Russia
SEOUL — South Korea’s spy agency says North Korea appears to have sent additional troops to Russia, after its soldiers deployed on the Russian-Ukraine fronts suffered heavy casualties.
The National Intelligence Service said Thursday it was trying to determine exactly how many more troops North Korea has deployed to Russia.

Drug lord, 28 other prisoners sent to US
MEXICO CITY — Mexico has sent infamous drug lord Rafael Caro Quintero to the United States along with 28 other prisoners requested by the U.S. government. Caro Quintero was behind the killing of a U.S. DEA agent in 1985.
Mexico’s Attorney General’s Office said in a statement that the 29 prisoners removed to the U.S. Thursday faced charges related to drug trafficking among other crimes.
