Sophomore named Workforce Scholar

JOHNSTOWN -- Pennsylvania Highlands Community College sophomore Kat Walker has been named a 2026 Chime Workforce Scholar, one of 200 students nationwide selected for the scholarship.

Walker, a culinary arts major from Windber, maintains a 4.0 grade-point average and is expected to graduate in spring 2027. She plans to pursue a career in hospitality management.

The $1,000 scholarship, funded by the Chime Scholars Foundation and administered by the Phi Theta Kappa Foundation, supports students pursuing career and technical education at two-year colleges.

Walker said the scholarship recognizes her hard work and dedication. As a nontraditional, first-generation college student, she hopes to inspire her son to pursue his dreams.
