Summer grads awarded
WILLIAMSPORT -- Pennsylvania College of Technology has presented student achievement awards to its summer 2026 graduates.
A commencement ceremony was held Aug. 8 at the Journey Bank Community Arts Center in Williamsport. Penn College is a special mission affiliate of Penn State.
n Ethan Charles Dilling of Roaring Spring, a physician assistant major, received the Russell M. Trapp Professionalism Award, presented to a graduate who exemplifies ideals consistent with the physician assistant profession as exhibited by exceptional commitment, comportment and attitude.
n Camden Jo Potter of Philipsburg, a radiography major, received the Mount Nittany Medical Center Excellence in Customer Service Award, presented to a graduate of radiography who has consistently demonstrated exceptional customer service and commitment to excellence during their clinical rotation at Mount Nittany Medical Center.
Sophomore does research
INDIANA, Pa. -- Evan Boose of Altoona, a sophomore biology pre-medicine major at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, was selected to participate in IUP's 2026 Undergraduate Summer Opportunities for Applying Research program.
U-SOAR is a 10-week summer program that offers selected undergraduate students, working with a faculty mentor, to engage in original, inquiry-based research, scholarship, or creative endeavors.
Students also have the opportunity to attend professional development workshops and complete a number of enrichment programs related to research and career success.
The program is open to students in all disciplines who are academically qualified, but students are chosen through a competitive application process.
Boose's project was "Oxidation Synthesis," which explored the development of chiral oxidants through the use of nitroxide chemistry as an environmentally friendly alternative to traditional oxidation methods.
Overall, the research seeks to expand the application of green, chiral oxidation catalysts in modern synthetic chemistry, and ultimately, help to change the way that drugs are designed to change their effectiveness in treating diseases.
Boose, son of Dennis and Melanie Boose, is a 2024 graduate of Altoona High School. He is a dean's list student.
Geisinger celebrates grads
SCRANTON -- Geisinger College of Health Sciences recently celebrated the graduation of its Associate Degree in Nursing Class of 2026 at the Geisinger School of Nursing commencement ceremony in Lewistown.
Following the conferral of degrees, graduates crossed the stage to receive their diplomas and nursing pins before joining faculty and fellow nurses in reciting the Nightingale Pledge.
Area graduates include Alison Dewey of Roaring Spring, icole Guthridge of Mount Union, Judith King of Mill Creek, Kiana McMullen of Mount Union, Brittany Naugle of Mount Union and Kaitlyn Salvanish of Clearfield.
White Coat ceremony held
SCRANTON -- Geisinger College of Health Sciences' School of Medicine held its 18th annual White Coat Ceremony for the Class of 2030 on Friday, Aug. 7 at Marywood University. Niranjan Anoop of Port Matilda received a white coat at the ceremony.
White Coat ceremonies welcome new medical students into the profession by taking an oath acknowledging their responsibilities as future physicians and their obligations to future patients.
Of the 126 students across the nation entering the class of 2030, 81 are Pennsylvania residents, including 35 from counties within Geisinger's service region.
The class also includes 35 Abigail Geisinger Scholars, reflecting the school's commitment to educating future physicians dedicated to serving communities across the region.
Student receives award
CHAMBERSBURG -- Eric Arbogast of Duncansville was among the students recognized for outstanding athletic achievement during Wilson College's annual Athletic Awards Ceremony held April 26.
Arbogast received the Student Athlete Award for Academic Excellence: Presented to a male student-athlete with the highest overall grade point average.
