LVC student studying abroad this summer

ANNVILLE — Shelly Bliss of Huntingdon is one of nearly 50 Lebanon Valley College students studying abroad this summer as part of the college’s study abroad program.

Bliss, a graduate of Mount Union High School, is pursuing a bachelor of science in exercise science and is studying in Costa Rica.

This four-week summer program is offered to students in any major who have an interest in broadening their Spanish language and Hispanic cultural knowledge.

You can earn six credits with this beginning, intermediate, or advanced proficiency Spanish language course that will apply toward a major or minor in Spanish. S

tudents live with different Costa Rican host families over the four-week program duration in three different cities: Flamingo, Monteverde and San Joaquin de Flores.

By the time they graduate, nearly 20 percent of LVC students will have spent time studying and traveling abroad, experiences that will shape and inform the rest of their lives as global citizens.

Commonwealth Univ. holds pinning ceremony

BELLEFONTE — The Commonwealth University Breiner School of Nursing recently held a pinning ceremony for all graduating Associate of Science in Nursing students from the

Clearfield and Lock Haven campuses.

The ceremony was held on May 14, in the Bald Eagle Area High School auditorium.

Among the students who participated in the ceremony were: Brittany Cambria of Kylertown, Alesca Cooper, of Duncansville, Olivia Ferdarko, of DuBois, Angela Gorton of Port Matilda, Callie Greishaw of Clearfield, Madison Beck of Philipsburg, Alexis Martin of Sandy Ridge, Sarah McCoy of DuBois, Agnese Ng of DuBois and Devin Steele of Bedford.

During the ceremony, the students pledged their oath to the profession of nursing, they received their pins and honors students also received their cords.

CU-Lock Haven celebrates educators

This spring, Commonwealth University-Lock Haven celebrated student teachers during the semi-annual Student Teacher Induction and Pinning Ceremony held in the Durrwachter Alumni Conference Center.

After successfully completing their placements, the student teachers were honored during the program designed to celebrate the hard work, dedication and commitment of prospective teachers.

Among the students honored at the ceremony were: Tyson Brennan of Port Matilda, Mackenzie Brown of Huntingdon, Madalyn Gottshall of Cresson, Abigail McGeary of Altoona, Parker Moore of Sandy Ridge, Morgan Shore of Port Matilda, Olivia Smith of Alexandria and Garrett Starr of DuBois.

Following the speakers, each student received a circle of children lapel pin, which represents four positive skills in the continuous circle of teaching and learning: cooperation, togetherness, unity and acceptance.

The evening concluded with opportunities for photographs on the DACC balcony and a reception.

ACM holds All-College Awards Ceremony

CUMBERLAND, Md. — Allegany College of Maryland held its annual All-College Awards Ceremony to recognize 77 outstanding students with 64 awards and departmental honors.

The students received awards for their achievements in academics, athletics, community engagement or perseverance.
