GACTC students excel in District SkillsUSA competition

State contest runs from April 2-4
Thirty-three students from the Greater Altoona Career & Technology Center medaled in the recent SkillsUSA District Competition, which was held at the Blair County Convention Center, Stuckey's Automotive, Carpenter's Union, GACTC, Allegheny Trucking and Roundhouse.
SkillsUSA is a career and technical student organization serving more than 413,000 members every year enrolled in trade, technical and skilled service training programs across the country.
"SkillsUSA District competitors exemplify dedication and hard work in their pursuit of excellence. These individuals showcase a commitment to honing their skills and talents within their respective fields, often putting in countless hours of practice and preparation," said Pam Kenawell, one of GACTC's SkillsUSA advisers.
"The journey for these competitors begins with a passion for their chosen craft, whether it be in areas such as technology, trades, or leadership. They invest time and effort to master the necessary skills, pushing themselves beyond their limits to achieve proficiency."

Whether it's demonstrating technical expertise, showcasing problem-solving abilities, or exhibiting leadership qualities, these competitors strive to stand out among their peers. The path to becoming a SkillsUSA District medalist is marked by resilience and perseverance. These individuals navigate through various challenges, learn from setbacks, and use every experience as an opportunity for growth. Their hard work not only leads to personal achievement but also contributes to the overall success and vibrancy of the SkillsUSA community. Through their dedication, these competitors inspire others to embrace the values of hard work, passion, and a commitment to lifelong learning." Kenawell added.

We are thankful for the teachers, staff and administration at the GACTC for the support and help with making this event run smoothly. We are excited and full of anticipation as we advance to States."
Gold medalists and Straight to State competitors will advance to the state competition in Hershey, which is set for April 2-4.
