Awards presented to summer graduates

WILLIAMSPORT — Pennsylvania College of Technology has presented student achievement awards to its Summer 2024 graduates.

A commencement ceremony was held Saturday, Aug. 3, at the Community Arts Center, Williamsport. Penn College is a special mission affiliate of Penn State.

The award winners, their hometowns and academic majors are:

Lewis H. Bardo Memorial Award, presented to a graduate who exemplifies the ideals of Lewis H. Bardo (devotion to duty, helpfulness to others, friendliness and high ideals) — Erica Ann Hawbaker, Huntingdon, physical therapist assistant.

UPMC Program Award for Applied Health Studies, presented to a graduate of the applied health studies program who has exhibited strong leadership and teamwork skills; has demonstrated excellence, professionalism and commitment to the health care profession; and has demonstrated academic excellence: Chastity J. Murray, Tyrone, applied health studies.

College Foundation awards $66,000

JOHNSTOWN — The Pennsylvania Highlands Community College Foundation is awarding more than $66,000 in scholarships to students for the 2024-25 academic year.

This encompasses awarding $36,000 to first-year Supporting Scholars, covering both the Emerging Leader Scholarship and the Presidential Scholarship. The foundation will also be awarding 20 scholarships (more than $30,000 in total) to deserving students.

Area students being awarded scholarships include:

Supporting Scholars/Presidential Scholarship — Gina Pettenati, Ashville.

Supporting Scholars/Emerging Leader Scholarship — Ava Dobransky, Northern Cambria; Tori Harrison, Portage; Lauren Lockard, Portage; Jacob Nolan, Portage; Kaitlin Smith, Martinsburg; Emma Weicht, Everett.

College Employee-Supported Scholarship — Elizabeth Karns-Waters, Altoona.

Dale W. Miller Scholarship — Bailey Norris, Huntingdon.

Dr. Anna D. Weitz Scholarship — Kelvin Williams, Cresson.

Gaynelle Schmieder Memorial Scholarship — Jocelynn Galat, Ashville.

Griffith Family Scholarship — Kayleigh Musser, Saxton.

Huntingdon Hope Scholarship — Bailey Norris, Huntingdon.

Ignite the Fire Culinary Scholarship — Allison Drass, Altoona.

Joseph and Joan Mangarella Scholarship — Elizabeth Karns-Waters, Altoona.

Roth Family Scholarship — Alexander Wilkins, Altoona.

Stan and Helen Westbrook Scholarship — Katrina Sheeder, Shirleysburg.
