Grant funds Field Day experience
WILLIAMSPORT -- More than 30 education majors from Commonwealth University's Bloomsburg, Lock Haven and Mansfield locations recently got an inside look at each level of public education thanks to a collaborative project with the Williamsport Area School District.
Among the students who participated were Mackenzie Vozniak of Snow Shoe and Megan Chuhran of Carrolltown.
The district-wide Field Day experience was made possible by to a $9,000 Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) mini grant awarded to Dr. Priya Poehner, professor of education at CU-Lock Haven, and Dr. Daniel Roesch, associate professor of teaching and learning at CU-Bloomsburg, to promote "Sweetening the Teaching Experience" and to focus on building partnerships with area schools.
Student inducted into Sigma Alpha Pi
ANNVILLE -- Shelly Bliss of Huntingdon is one of the students inducted into Lebanon Valley College's chapter of Sigma Alpha Pi honor society.
Bliss, a graduate of Mount Union High School, is pursuing a bachelor of science in exercise science.
Students of Sigma Alpha Pi are selected for induction based on their GPA and level of involvement.
The society is based on six main tenets for achieving success: finding a vision, setting goals, persevering, taking risks, pursuing your passion and continuous improvement.
Student serving as orientation leader
GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Bethany Brooks, an English education major from Warriors Mark, is serving as a group leader at Bob Jones University during summer orientation on June 21-22.
Orientation leaders are upperclassmen paired with faculty and administrators to guide participants through summer orientation, a two-day event hosted for incoming freshmen and new students before the start of the fall semester.
