Students earn building-code certificates
WILLIAMSPORT -- Cody B. Seidel, Tyrone, was one of 34 Pennsylvania College of Technology students who recently attained International Codes Council certification as Building Code Specialists.
Seidel was a building construction technology student who was certified, then graduated in May.
The students comprised three sections of construction technology instructor Harry W. Hintz Jr.'s Codes in Construction class during the spring semester.
To earn certificates, students had to score 70% or better on a 60-question, 2-hour-allotted, written examination on the building provisions of "The International Residential Code for One- and Two-Family Dwellings."
Penn College was the first postsecondary institution in the United States to offer the council's College Technical Training Program, which uses the qualifying exam that the students took and has since been adopted by many colleges nationwide.
