PSU Altoona Jazz Band to perform April 16

Penn State Altoona's University Jazz Band will perform at 2:30 p.m. April 16 in the Paul R. and Margery Wolf Kuhn Theatre of the Misciagna Family Center for Performing Arts.

This performance is free and open to the public.

The student ensemble is directed by Josh Hillard, part-time instructor in music at Penn State Altoona. Musical selections in a variety of contemporary big band styles will be performed.

Tickets for this performance are free and may be collected at the box office, which is open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Thursday,, and before and during all performances.

Ivyside Pride to perform 'All Around the World'

Penn State Altoona's Ivyside Pride choral group will offer its spring performance, "All Around the World," at 7:30 p.m. April 22 and 2 p.m. April 23 in the Wolf Kuhn Theatre of the Misciagna Family Center for Performing Arts. Ivyside Pride is directed by Bonnie Cutsforth-Huber, professor of music at Penn State Altoona. The group has performed both nationally and internationally, including at Carnegie Hall, Avery Fisher Hall, Strasbourg Cathedral and St. Stephen's Cathedral in Vienna, Austria.

Student named New Century Transfer Scholar

JOHNSTOWN -- Matthew Gaul of Irvona, a student at Pennsylvania Highlands Community College, has been named a 2022 New Century Transfer Scholar and will receive a $2,250 scholarship. Matthew Gaul will be graduating this May with a degree in liberal arts and sciences.

New Century Transfer Scholars are selected based on their academic accomplishments, leadership, activities and how they extend their intellectual talents beyond the classroom. More than 2,200 students were nominated from more than 1,200 college campuses across the country. Only one New Century Transfer Scholar is selected from each state.

"This honor is a testament to the leadership qualities exuded by Matthew Gaul," said Dr. Steve Nunez, president of Pennsylvania Highlands Community College.

The program is sponsored by The Coca-Cola Foundation, the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation, Phi Theta Kappa and the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC).

"We congratulate Matthew for receiving this prestigious scholarship, and we are honored to partner with the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation, The Coca-Cola Foundation, and the AACC to recognize these outstanding achievements," said Phi Theta Kappa's president and CEO Dr. Lynn Tincher-Ladner.
