Pollinator garden project completed at Prince Gallitzin
EBENSBURG -- Makenna Sandoval and Lilly Prindle of Girl Scout Troop 16336 in Ebensburg recently completed their Girl Scout Silver Award.
Their project was creating a pollinator garden at Prince Gallitzin State Park in Patton.
The girls held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the garden on Sunday, Sept. 20.
For the project, Sandoval and Prindle researched plants native to the area and selected varieties that would provide flowers from spring through fall and attract a variety of pollinators.
The plants were purchased through the Friends of Yellow Creek State Park and Penguin Court native plant sale.
The girls raised money through sponsors and other activities to cover the project costs.
They then designed and built the garden.
As part of the project's educational requirements, the girls created an informational flyer, coloring pages, a word search and games that will be available for use at the state park. Each girl contributed more than 50 hours to the project.
