WISE Women to hold annual meeting
The WISE Women of Blair County will hold its annual membership meeting on Monday, Oct. 19, at the Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art, 1210 11th Ave., Altoona with a reception at 5:30 p.m. and the business meeting starting at 6 p.m. Current WISE members can get an update on current activities, member events and the financial status of the organization.
The featured speaker will be Carolyn Donaldson, vice president, community engagement and relationship development officer of Kish Bank. She serves five counties in Central Pennsylvania where she directs philanthropic and community engaging events, programs and sponsorships of the bank. She coordinates community service work of the nearly 300 Kish Bank employees.

AFSCME Retirees to meet Wednesday
The American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees Retirees subchapter 8306 will meet at
1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7, at the Union Hall on Patchway Road in Duncansville.
The executive board will meet at 12:30 p.m.
Newry Lions plan spaghetti dinner
The Newry Lions Club will sponsor a spaghetti dinner from 5 to 7 p.m. on the first Tuesday of each month -- October, November and December -- at the club, behind Leighty's Market in Newry.
The next dinner will be held Tuesday, Oct. 6.
The cost is $8 per meal. All are welcome.
School retirees to meet at The Dream
The Blair County Chapter of the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees will meet at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6, at The Dream Restaurant in Hollidaysburg.
New members are encouraged to attend. Monetary donations will be collected for the chapter's Blair County scholarship, education support and Social Service Memorial Honor Fund.
NARVRE meeting to focus on Medicare
The National Association of Retired and Veteran Railway Employees will meet at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7, at Prime Sirloin Buffet in Duncansville.
A representative from TLC Insurance Group will discuss Medicare updates for 2027. NARVRE has partnered with TLC to provide expert guidance on Medicare issues to the individual NARVE units throughout the country.

Patton Club hears about Corner Lot
Barb Hauge, a Pennsylvania registered landscape architect from the Indiana Garden Club, gave an account about the history of the Patton Garden Club's Corner Lot at a recent club meeting.
Hauge was instrumental in the development of the design of the lot. She described how she put elements of the original lot with new ideas to showcase the trees and plants populating the flower beds.
Country Traditions to perform Oct. 10
The Alum Bank Community Volunteer Fire Company Auxiliary will host the band Country Traditions from 6:30 to 10 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, at the fire hall.

'Hollidaysburg Mystery' set Oct. 16-17
Hollidaysburg Area Arts Council and the Altoona Community Theater will present "Sherlock Holmes -- A Hollidaysburg Mystery" Oct. 16 and 17 at the U.S. Hotel, Hollidaysburg. Doors will open at 5 p.m. Dinner is at 5:30.
Created in celebration of America 250, this one-of-a-kind production brings Hollidaysburg's early 1800s history to life through an engaging murder mystery experience. The project will highlight local heritage, support the arts and offer the community a memorable evening of theater, history and entertainment
Tickets are $50 per person, with eight guests per table. Tickets include entertainment, dinner and dessert. A cash bar will be available. Historic clothing is encouraged.
