WISE Women of Blair County and the Donna D. Gority Scholarship are accepting applications for scholarship assistance. One or more scholarships totaling up to $10,000 will be awarded.
Completed applications must be received by 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 9. Applications may be submitted by email to info@wisewomenofblaircounty.org or by mail to WISE Women of Blair County, P.O. Box 134, Hollidaysburg, PA 16648.
Scholarships are available to female Blair County residents who are at least 21 years old, have overcome adversity or discrimination in their lives and are pursuing postsecondary education. Scholarships are not available for master's or doctoral degrees or a second bachelor's degree.
The scholarships are awarded through the Central Pennsylvania Community Foundation.
The Donna D. Gority Scholarship will be awarded to a woman whose adversity, education or career aspirations are related to an area in which Gority was involved in the community. Those areas include domestic abuse, sexual assault, substance use disorder, mental illness and suicide, child abuse, HIV/AIDS, homelessness, juvenile and criminal justice, teen pregnancy, physical or intellectual disabilities, and racial or LGBTQIA+ discrimination.
All applicants will be considered for both the WISE Women and Gority scholarships.
The application includes two essay questions. Applicants must describe their career goals and plans for achieving them and explain the adversity they have experienced and its impact. Applicants also must provide information about their educational background and may include any additional information they want the scholarship committee to consider.
