‘Raise the roof fundraiser’ supports playhouse

Since 1982, The Playhouse at McConnellstown has served as Huntingdon County's Little Theater. To passersby along Route 26 on their way to Raystown Lake, it may look like an unassuming 19th-century building near a local cemetery; but to patrons, local thespians, and generations of community members, it is an entertainment sanctuary, a learning ground, and a true second home. Now, after more than 40 years of delivering laughter, tears and unforgettable performances, the historic building needs repairs to ensure it remains a safe and welcoming haven for the performing arts.
To address these needs, the theater has launched its multi-year "Raise the Roof" Campaign, aiming to raise about $30,000 to go directly toward major building maintenance. Slated repairs include a full roof replacement, new gutters and downspouts, and additional facilities work by licensed contractors.
The community is invited to celebrate and support the campaign with this weekend's fundraiser, the Jukebox Cabaret, to be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 18, at Juniata Brewing Co., Huntingdon. This special 21-and-over evening will feature live performances by The Dan and Galla Musical Show alongside Playhouse vocalists, offering singalong standards from across decades with plenty of audience participation.
Attendees can enjoy gourmet hot dogs, craft beers and specialty cocktails available for purchase from Juniata Brewing Co. The event will also feature a 50/50 drawing alongside a wide range of high-value raffle packages including passes to DelGrosso's Amusement Park, Urban Air and Lincoln Caverns; gift certificates to local restaurants; a golf package, books published by local author Charity Ellis, and a kids' fun basket.
Early-bird tickets are now available for $10 online at mcconnellstownplayhouse.ludus.com, or they can be purchased at the door on the night of the event for $15. Attendees should note that while Juniata Brewing Co. accepts credit cards for food and beverages, all cabaret raffle and 50/50 activities are strictly cash-only. There is no ATM on site.
"Without the support of our friends, patrons, and the community, Huntingdon's Little Theater would not have lasted 40 years," said Meghan Whitesel, playhouse marketing director. "Help us make it last another 40 more."
Juniata Brewing Co.'s Warehouse Pavilion is at 1102 Susquehanna Ave., Huntingdon.
