Dozens gather to honor Mount Aloysius alumnae Patricia M. Gildea

On Saturday, Aug. 29, more than 65 Mount Aloysius College students, faculty, staff and alumni came together for the inaugrual "Patricia M. Gildea Day of Service," a day of service to the local community in memory of Pat Gildea, a 1947 Mount Aloysius alumnae and local community service advocate who passed away earlier this year at the age of 99.
In recognition of a life of passionate service and leadership, the Patricia M. Gildea Day of Service brought Mounties together for a variety of projects across five sites, including clean-up crews stationed on Cresson's Front Street, the Cresson Library, St. Vincent de Paul Thrift Store, the Cresson Sanatorium and the Mount Aloysius campus.
Reflecting on the day, Mount Aloysius President John McKeegan remarked, "It is wonderful to see so many Mounties out giving their time to make a difference on campus and in our community. Service has always been a core value of the Sisters of Mercy, and it remains a pillar of a Mercy education. Pat Gildea was a true exemplar of what it means to be a Mountie for life, and I think this Day of Service is the perfect way to honor her memory."
Gildea was extremely dedicated to the Mount on and off campus, serving in numerous leadership roles across campus for seven decades. In 2001, she was awarded the prestigious Catherine McAuley Medal from Mount Aloysius College for her compassionate service and lifetime achievements.
