Cresson Public Library has announced its programs for October.
n A HOWL-O-WEEN Pawsome Reading Program will be held from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 3. Come in costume. Take pics with the therapy dogs. Leave with a piece of candy … or your own book … or both. Therapy dog handlers will read a story. Then therapy dogs will listen to children read stories to them. Even if a child cannot read yet, the child can look through a picture book and use his/her imagination to make up a story to tell the dog.
n Pop-Up Craft Days will be held Tuesdays, Oct. 6 and 20. Children can stop by the library to make DIY crafts. All materials and instructions are provided for these DIYs on the table in the children's section.
n "Air Quality Monitoring and Your Health" will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10,. Join scientists from Physicians for Social Responsibility-PA to learn about using Infrared Optical Gas Imaging to monitor particles, gases and chemicals in the air. FLIR OGI cameras reveal pollutants by capturing real-time images of gas plumes and emissions that communities often smell, taste or see but cannot prove.
n Story Time will be held to 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 17.
n Join Tyler Moudry, historian and president of the Cresson Historical Society at noon Saturday, Oct. 24, for Ghost Stories of Cambria County. Local lore about who might still inhabit the places and spaces throughout Cambria County. This is for adults only. If you're easily scared, this may not be for you. Please plan your children's visits accordingly since the talk will be in an open space.
n The library's third annual basket raffle will be held from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 25, at the Cresson American Legion during the Cresson Lions Club Pancake Breakfast. We need your support in making it both fun and successful. Interested in donating a basket, gift certificates or items for a combined basket? Donations can be dropped off at the library (or call for pick-up) between Oct. 1-20.
n Story Stitchers Sewing Club will meet from 5 to 7 p.m. Oct. 28 (on the fourth Wednesday of each month) at the library. Anyone who can thread a needle can participate. Call the library at 814-886-2619 for information on past/present projects.
