Military Food Share set for Monday
The monthly Military Food Share distribution at the Duncansville VFW Auxiliary 8724 will be held on Monday, Sept. 14, beginning at 11 a.m.
This is for all active military, veterans and widows or widowers of veterans living in Blair County.
A military and photo ID are required. Enter from Dunnings Highway/Newry Lane and line up on Turek Drive if the parking lot is full.
Auxiliary meetings are held at 6 p.m. on the first Thursday of every month at the Duncansville VFW 1665 Newry Lane.
'Mountain Pie Madness' set for Sept. 20
The Friends of Canoe Creek will present "Mountain Pie Madness" from 1 to 4 p..m. Sunday, Sept. 20, at the fire rings at Canoe Creek State Park Education Center, Hollidaysburg.
This free family event will include sweet or savory mountain pies, while supplies last, and self-guided trail walks. There will be photo opportunities, face painting, crafts and music by Steve "That DJ Guy."
Dreams Go On horses will be there from 1 to 2:30 p.m. and a visit from America 250PA Keystone Kid mascot.
Chorale's fall season begins Sept. 15
Allegheny Chorale will begin rehearsals for its fall season at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 15, at Tyrone Alliance Church, 2103 Adams Ave., Tyrone.
Anyone with a love for singing is invited to become a part of Allegheny Chorale. There are no auditions or tryouts required for membership.
Rehearsals are held every Tuesday evening, and new members are welcome to join during the first two weeks of rehearsals. Tyrone Alliance Church offers ample parking and handicap-accessible facilities.
Membership dues are $20 per season.
The chorale's fall season will culminate with two Christmas concerts, scheduled for Dec. 6 in Altoona and Dec. 8 in Tyrone.

Genealogy society to host speaker Sept. 17
The Blair County Genealogical Society will meet at
7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 17, at 431 Scotch Valley Road,
Hollidaysburg.
The society's current president, Jim Snyder Jr., will present a program titled "The Adam Holliday Land Story." Snyder will explore the history of Adam Holliday and the land associated with him, sharing historical details that will be of interest to genealogists, local history enthusiasts and anyone interested in the heritage of Hollidaysburg and Blair County.

Johnstown Postcard Club plans show
The Greater Johnstown Postcard Club will hold its annual postcard and paper ephemera show from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 19, at the Young Peoples Community Center, 300 Prave St., Ebensburg.
Admission is $2. Approximately 15 dealers will be in attendance, where people can purchase and learn about local postcards and paper ephemera. Attendees with postcards or paper ephemera can have them appraised or sell them, and dealers and club members will be available for consultation.

Hollidaysburg Class of 1959 to meet
Members of the Hollidaysburg High School Class of 1959 will meet for lunch at 11:15 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 17, in the reserved room at The Dream, 1500 Allegheny St., Hollidaysburg. Classmates and guests are welcome.
Anyone who can't come for lunch can meet the group at The Meadows for dessert around 1:30 p.m.

Swinging Squares plan 'Fun Nights'
Swinging Squares of Altoona announced their annual "Fun Nights" for September. It's free, and everyone is welcome -- couples, singles and families.

All sessions are held at the Jaggard Street United Methodist Church in Altoona from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursdays. The club dance is from 8 to 9 p.m.
Dates are Sept. 17 and Sept. 24.
Soup, sandwich meal offered Wednesday
Homers Gap Civic Association, 135 Preston Lane, will hold an eat-in/take-out dinner from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 16. Cost is $12, which includes a choice of chicken corn or vegetable beef soup, egg salad or ham salad sandwich, chips, applesauce and a cookie. Orders must be made by Monday, Sept. 14, by calling Meg at 814-932-3883.
Spaghetti dinner to help the poor
The Society of St Vincent dePaul, St Therese of The Child Jesus Conference will serve a spaghetti and meatball dinner (gluten free option available), along with salad, dessert and beverage from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 20, in Father Kelly Hall, corner of 25th Avenue and Fifth Street, Altoona.
Adult tickets are $10, children (ages 3 to 10) are $5, under 3 are free.
There will also be two gift card board raffles valued at $400 each and a lottery ticket tree raffle.
The benefit is to raise money to continue helping the poor in the community.
