Hollidaysburg library schedules Aug. activities

The Hollidaysburg Area Public Library has announced its activities for August.

n Canasta and Mah Jongg games are held at

11 a.m. Mondays. Beginners are welcome. Note: there will be no games held on Aug. 31.

n Maker Mondays are held all day Mondays in the Children's Room. A station will be set up with a different craft, challenge or activity each week.

n Storytime and Craft will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Children must be accompanied by a caregiver. Note: there will be no Storytime on Aug. 18 and 19.

n Needlework & Arts Group is held at 12:30 p.m. Tuesdays. Bring your own materials and projects for this crafting club intended for adults.

n Twisted Stitchers meet from 5 to 6 p.m. Wednesdays. Bring your own project, yarn and hooks; spend time with other crafters.

n Lego Club will meet from 1 to 3 p.m. Fridays. Bring your imagination; the library will supply the Legos.

n Paws to Read will be held from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 1. Meet and read to pets from the Central PA Humane Society. Children ages 5 and up are welcome with their caregivers.

n Altoona/Blair County Photo Society will meet at 6:30 p.m., Monday, Aug. 3. The Photo Society gathers to discuss a variety of topics, including taking and editing pictures. Learn something new with any type of camera or smart phone. New members are welcome. Call 814-207-1479 with questions.

n Women Writers Book Club will meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 11. August's book will be "The Age of Innocence" by Edith Wharton.

n Inspirational Book Club will meet at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 13. This month's book selection is "Last Light" by Terri Blackstock.

n Master Gardeners Class will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 26. "From Seed to Handmade Art: Growing Gourds." Register at https://extension.psu.edu/from-seed-to-handmade-art-growing-gourds.

n All That Glitters Summer Book Club will meet at 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 27, to discuss "The Sun Also Rises" by Ernest Hemingway. All are welcome.

n BOOKbucks from the Summer Reading Program may be redeemed while supplies last.

StoryWalk Hollidaysburg

Join us in Downtown Hollidaysburg for this fun, family-friendly self-guided walk. Read the book "Never Follow a Dinosaur" by Alex Latimer, on each storefront poster as you stroll. Pick up or download a StoryWalk map and worksheet (one for each child) at one of the following spots: Hollidaysburg Area Public Library, Copy-Rite Banner Zone or HACP Facebook (downloadable). Each child receives a free book of their choosing upon completion. The walk continues through Labor Day, Sept. 1.
