The Gloria Gates Memorial Foundation hosted its 16th annual "For the Kids" Golf Tournament on Saturday, June 6, at Sinking Valley Country Club, raising $15,740 to support its three free afterschool program sites serving children throughout Blair County.

Thanks to the generosity of sponsors, golfers and community supporters, 100% of the proceeds remain in Blair County, directly benefiting GGMF's afterschool programs in Evergreen Manors, Fairview Hills and the Jefferson Park area. These funds help provide academic support, healthy snacks, enrichment activities, field trips, and positive mentorship opportunities for local children.

This year's tournament welcomed 29 teams, the largest turnout in the event's history. While the day brought plenty of enthusiasm, Mother Nature had other plans. Golfers endured one rain delay before the tournament was ultimately called early due to lightning. Because the event could not be completed, prize winners were selected through a random drawing.

The foundation extends its sincere appreciation to the many businesses and organizations whose generous sponsorships made the event possible.

Dinner sponsors were the Greg and Mary Drew Charitable Fund, Value Specialty Pharmacy and Pinnacle Hospice.

Golden Gates sponsors were Gloria Gates Care, Thompson Pharmacy, UPMC, Altoona First Savings and L.S. Fiore.

Commemorative gift sponsors were Ward Trucking and Webber Seltzer Wealth Advisors.

Beverage cart sponsors were McCloskey Builders, Catholic War Vets, Reliance Bank, Jennifer Hansberry, Patricia Shingler, Evolve Insurance and Blair Image Elements.

Doug's Dawgs provided hot dogs for the golfers.

According to organizers, "The Gloria Gates Memorial Foundation would like to express its heartfelt gratitude to every sponsor, golfer, volunteer, staff member, and the outstanding team at Sinking Valley Country Club for helping make the tournament another tremendous success despite the challenging weather."

The 17th annual "For the Kids" Golf Tournament will be held on Saturday, June 5, at Sinking Valley Country Club.
