The Miracle League of Blair County will host an exhibition baseball game Saturday, Aug. 8, featuring players from the newly forming Miracle League at Roxbury Park in Cambria County.
"We are excited to provide a real baseball experience for the new players from Roxbury," said Joe Reed, president of the Miracle League of Blair County. "We couldn't be happier that Cambria County has initiated plans for a field in Roxbury Park. Miracle League is not only rewarding for the kids, but for the families as well."
The game will begin at 11:30 a.m. at the Miracle League of Blair County field. Players from Roxbury Park will join Blair County all-stars on the field for the event, which will include appearances by Altoona Curve mascot Loco, special event shirts, merchandise bags and refreshments.
Tommy Edwards of Rocky 104.9 will serve as the celebrity announcer. Blair County player Connor Smith said he is looking forward to welcoming the new players.
"I am so excited about the Johnstown kids coming to play with us," Smith said. "The best part about Miracle League is I love to play baseball and be with my friends."
"There are hardly words to express what it means to watch these kids play baseball with so much joy and confidence," said Tobi Sky Rispoli, volunteer and public relations coordinator for the league. "Everybody wins."
Organizers with the Miracle League at Roxbury Park said they hope to have players competing on their new field by spring 2027.
The Miracle League of Blair County, celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, operates from May through August, with games held Saturdays at 10 a.m., 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m.
Miracle League programs across Pennsylvania provide opportunities for children with physical or mental disabilities to participate in baseball in an inclusive environment.
