Blair-Bedford Builders delivers donations to veterans home

HOLLIDAYSBURG -- The Blair-Bedford Builders Association recently wrapped up its "Fill the Truck for Veterans" campaign with an outpouring of support from local businesses, association members and residents throughout the area.

The campaign, organized by BBBA in partnership with Stuckey Ford, resulted in a tremendous outpouring of donated goods for the residents of the Hollidaysburg Veterans' Home. In addition to the donated items, BBBA presented a monetary contribution generated through its 30th annual golf tournament. Altogether, the campaign resulted in nearly $6,000 in monetary and donated support for the Veterans' Home.

"This was really a community effort," said Jim Brown, executive officer of the Blair-Bedford Builders Association. "We knew our members would get behind it, but the amount of support we received from businesses and people throughout the area was impressive. We filled the truck with donated items, and our golf tournament gave us another opportunity to add financial support for the Veterans' Home."

The campaign was supported by Stuckey Ford, Reliance Bank, S&A Homes, Greenwood Pools & Spas, Impressive Floors of Bedford and Seven Mountains Media, each of which played a role in helping BBBA collect donations and spread the word about the campaign.

The monetary portion of the contribution came from BBBA's 30th annual Golf Tournament, held June 18 at Iron Masters Country Club. The tournament, presented by Breezeline, raised funds to support veterans at the Hollidaysburg Veterans' Home while also supporting BBBA's educational initiatives.

"We are extremely grateful to everyone who donated, helped collect items, sponsored the campaign, helped promote it or participated in the golf tournament," Brown said. "Most importantly, this was about doing something for the veterans who live at the Hollidaysburg Veterans' Home. They have given a tremendous amount to our country, and we were proud to have our association and our community give something back to them."

"This is something we want to build on," Brown said. "Next year, we want to make it bigger and better. We want more businesses involved, more people involved and an even bigger impact on the veterans who call Hollidaysburg Veterans' Home home."
