Blair Garden Club to visit Underhill Farm
Blair Garden Club will meet Monday, Aug. 24, for a trip to Underhill Farm in Hollidaysburg.
Members should be at the American Legion parking lot at 4:30 p.m. to carpool to the farm.
Owners Will Churchill and Fred Stowell will provide a tour of their extensive gardens. Attendees will also get to see the rare Leicester Longwool sheep they raise on the farm. The fleece they produce is processed into lustrous yarn that is then hand-dyed at the farm.
Smoking cessation classes start Sept. 1
Freedom from Smoking classes will be held from
4:30 to 6 p.m. every Tuesday from Sept. 1 through Oct. 13 at Altoona Lung Specialists, 800 Chestnut Ave., Altoona.
The quit smoking date is Sept. 22. Sponsored by the Lung Disease Foundation of Central PA, these classes have no fee to attend and include free nicotine replacement therapy in the form of patches, gum or mints. Call 814-843-0182 to register or for more information.
East Meets Western offers dance lessons
East Meets Western Dance Club has been bringing people together through line dancing since 1992.
The group dances every Monday evening at the Unter Uns Club. You do not have to be an Unter Uns member to attend.
Beginning in September, Joyce Veckov will be teaching Beginning Line Dancing from 6:30 to 7 p.m., followed by regular line dancing from 7 to 9 p.m.
Admission is $5 for members and $6 for nonmembers
All levels of dancers are welcome.
Family Hospice offers grief support
Family Hospice, part of UPMC, is offering free grief support sessions at Trinity Lutheran Church, 408 N. 6th St. (Juniata), Altoona. Groups will meet from 2 to 3 p.m. Wednesdays from Sept. 9 to Oct. 14.
Family Hospice Bereavement Coordinator Jennifer Cox and Social Worker Kelly Cherry are facilitating this group for attendees to share their feelings with others who are grieving. Attendees should use doors to community hall (side entrance near alley).
Space is limited. Registration is required by Sept. 8.

Nursing alumni to meet Monday
The Altoona/Mercy Schools of Nursing Alumni Association will meet at 6 p.m. Monday, Aug. 24, at Perkins Restaurant, 3300 Pleasant Valley Blvd., Altoona.
Members are invited to attend.
Tussey Mtn. Class of '62 plans reunion
The Tussey Mountain High School Class of 1962 will meet for a class reunion at 4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 4, for social hour, followed by dinner at 5 p.m., at The Bistro of Martinsburg, now called Traditions Cafe and Events.

Bingo to aid Alzheimer's Association
Celebration Villa of Altoona, 170 Red Fox Drive, Duncansville, will hold a fundraiser bingo from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 26, with all proceeds going to the Alzheimer's Association.
There will be 10 games with 10 baskets for $10.
Historical society changes speaker date
The Bedford County Historical Society has changed the date for its next event in its speaker series. It will be held from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 29, at the Hall at Kinton's Knob, 6441 Lincoln Highway, Bedford.
Superintendent Stephen Clark of the Flight 93 National Memorial for a presentation commemorating the 25th anniversary of Sept. 11, 2001. Reflecting on the events of that tragic day, Clark will share the story of Flight 93, the heroism of its passengers and crew, and the evolution of the national memorial over the past quarter century.
The lecture is free to the public. Light refreshments will be served.
YMCA taking donations for yard sale
The Blair Regional YMCA will hold its annual yard sale Sept. 17-19 at the Y's main campus at 1111 Hewit St.
The Early Bird Sale will be offered from 5 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 17, for a $10 early-entry fee.
There will be free admission from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 18, and 7 a.m.. to noon Saturday, Sept. 19.
Donations will be accepted during the scheduled drop-off dates and times listed below. For safety and staffing reasons, donations cannot be dropped off at the YMCA outside of these scheduled times.
If you are unable to use one of the scheduled drop-off times, contact Phyllis Baker at 814-695-4467 ext. 218, or pbaker@blairregionalymca.org in advance to schedule a different date and time.

Donations suggested include: toys, furniture, sporting goods, bicycles, kitchen items, tools, seasonal and holiday items, camping and outdoor furniture, blankets, rugs, working electronics, glassware and books in good condition.
Items that cannot be accepted include: clothing, tube televisions, incomplete electronics, shoes, magazines and stuffed animals.
Only items that are clean, in good condition, and in working order can be accepted.
