Huntingdon Nurse Honor Guard to form
The Huntingdon County Nurse Honor Guard is forming for registered nurses and licensed practical nurses, working or retired.
An organizational meeting will take place at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 18, at Hoss's Steak and Sea House in Huntingdon.

Hollidaysburg Class of 1959 to meet
Members of the Hollidaysburg High School Class of 1959 will meet for lunch at 11:15 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 20, in the reserved room at The Dream, 1500 Allegheny St., Hollidaysburg.
Classmates and guests are welcome. Anyone who can't come for lunch can meet the group at The Meadows for dessert sometime around 1:30 p.m.

Chicken barbecue set for Aug. 23
Phoenix Volunteer Fire Department will hold a chicken barbecue from 11 a.m. until sold out on Sunday,
Aug. 23, at 206 Wayne St., Hollidaysburg.
Cost is $14, which includes a half chicken, baked beans, coleslaw, macaroni salad, roll and butter.
Dinners are eat in or take out.
Homers Gap Civics dinner set for Aug. 19
The Homers Gap Civic Association, 135 Preston Lane, will hold a eat-in/take-out dinner from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 19.
Cost is $12, which includes a cheeseburger, macaroni salad, baked beans, Jello and a cupcake.

Altoona Class of 1964 to meet Aug. 20
The Altoona High School Class of 1964 meets for lunch at 11:30 a.m. on the third Thursday of the month.

Indiana dancers to kick off new season
The Indiana Ballroom Dance Club welcomes dancers to kick off the 2026-27 dance season. A Homecoming-themed semi-formal is Friday, Sept. 4, at the Elks in Indiana.
Zupe will perform from 7 to 10 p.m. The cost is $15 per person. A dinner buffet catered by Luigi's is available at 6:20 p.m. for an additional $32 per person.

Country Traditions to perform Aug. 22
The Alum Bank Community Volunteer Fire Company Auxiliary will host the band Country Traditions from 6:30 to 10 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 22, at the firehall.
Admission is $5 per person. The kitchen opens at 5 p.m. It is a smoke- and alcohol-free atmosphere.

Genealogical society announces speaker
The Blair County Genealogical Society will host its August speaker event at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 20, at 431 Scotch Valley Road, Hollidaysburg.
Justin Houser will present a program titled "Pennsylvania Germans." Houser is an attorney residing in Bellefonte and has been actively researching family history since childhood.

Master Gardeners to hold gourd series
The Penn State Extension Master Gardener Program will present "From Seed to Handmade Art: Growing and Crafting with Gourds."
Follow the journey of gourds from seed to finished art by attending this hands-on workshop three-part series.
Participants will learn growing techniques and how to harvest, cure and clean the gourds for creating unique decorative pieces.
The series is for crafters and gardeners and at the same time offers gardening education and use of creative expression.
Part One -- Growing Gourds focuses on selecting and starting seeds and provides education on growing conditions, pollination and harvesting gourds. Part Two -- Crafting with Gourds is set for two sessions complete with the full process of cleaning, preparing and painting with acrylics in session one. In session two, crafters will learn additional decorating techniques and how to finish and preserve their gourds.
Session One will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 29. Session Two will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 5. Both sessions are at Nature Works Park, 108 Bedford St., Hollidaysburg.
